Nard rules

Nard is another popular game for two persons. It takes place on a rectangular field, divided into two identical parts. In addition to the board, the following is also required for the game: 2 pairs of dice, 15 black and 15 white checkers.

The goal of the game is to bring checkers to your own home and take them out of the board before the opponent.

Gameplay

  • The owner of white checkers always leads first;
  • The system places the chips in the opposite right corner (along the side of the field) for each participant. This kind of the initial position of the checkers has its own name—the head;
  • Only one chip per lead is allowed from the head. But there are two exceptions: if there is a jackpot (six by six, four by four, three by three), and if the very first lead is made at the beginning of the game, you can remove two chips in one lead;
  • The length of each player’s lead depends on the points on the dice cups;
  • In one standard lead, it is allowed to move two checkers. The movement of each chip will correspond to the number of points on one dice. It is also possible to walk with only one checker. In this case, the points on both pairs of dice will be added up;
  • The checkers shall be leaded counterclockwise;
  • If the same number of points (double) falls on the dice, the participant has the right to lead four times instead of two;
  • It is forbidden to place your checker on a cell occupied by the opponent;
  • Nard has such a feature as locking. To do this, you need to build a continuous row of six of one’s own checkers. Under these conditions, the chip previous to the opponent’s six checkers is considered locked and does not have the ability to lead around the field;
  • After the participant has brought all his/her checkers into the house, he/she has the opportunity to remove them from the playing field. Chips are displayed in accordance with the scored points on the dice cub and the numbering of the cell. If the desired triangle is empty, it is allowed to transfer a checker from the oldest of all filled cells to it.

Final

The winner of the game is the one who first made all his/her checkers outside the playing field.
